One in seven men suffer with pelvic pain. The average time to diagnosis is more than 5 years. However, it is often a black hole diagnosis with patients bounced from specialist to specialist with many having suffered for months, sometimes even years before seeking help. At our pelvic pain clinic, we put a stop to this. We offer a meticulous pelvic health assessment service followed by diagnostics, treatment and then an aftercare plan. We will get to the root cause of the problem and find a solution and help you understand your pelvic pain so you can get on the road to full recovery.

Common Conditions:
Why Has My Pelvic Pain Not Got Better?
Pelvic pain can start through an injury or it can start without cause. Some men have suffered from an infection with pain persisting long after the infection has gone. The nervous system stays on high alert, activating muscles and placing tissue under tension. This creates a continual cycle of pain that becomes a new normal ensuring pain remains long after the injury, inflammation or infection has resolved. Trigger points form in the pelvis, nerve signals are sensitised and muscles can weaken leading to problems with urination, erection and ejaculation.
You are typically treated with antibiotics as a first line and if there is no infection, medics are often at a loss. Typically diagnosed as Chronic prostatitis there is a plethora of theories and treatments tried by patients with little success, and often sourced on the web. At Core Body Clinic we aim to ensure there is clarity in understanding your condition so that a clear route to recovery is established.
The pelvic health assessment consists of a thorough taking of your medical history, where we will ask you about your journey so far. Medical consultations lack the depth in questioning, often leaving out many important components. Our consultants leave no stone unturned as we pursue the route of your pain. We will want to know when your pelvic pain started and what has happened since. It might be important to list the chronological order of your pelvic pain and bring this with you to the consultation.
We will also want to know about your past medical history and if you are currently taking any medication.
We may also use a questionnaire which helps to identify an objective marker so that we can accurately identify progress.

Examining a person with pelvic pain will depend on the nature of the problem and whether we know a diagnosis or not, and could include an assessment of posture, the lumbar spine, pelvis, hips and pelvic muscles. We may also palpate on the inside of the pelvis, with consent. This is called an internal examination and allows the physiotherapist to determine the presence of pelvic trigger points that may be causing pain.

Pelvic dynamic ultrasound will also be used to assess pelvic floor function. This provides a huge amount of information and can often be used to guide pelvic floor rehabilitation.
Once the examination is complete we will devise a plan to get you back to normal. Typically, we expect patients to recover within 3 to 6 months depending on the nature of their condition.
